Organic Meadow Introduces 'A New Way to Get Cultured' with Launch of Keifr
September 16, 2010
(Guelph, ON) – Organic Meadow Inc., Canada’s first organic dairy company and one of Canada’s leading organic brands, announces distribution of a new product: Organic Meadow Kéfir, a refreshing cultured dairy beverage similar in taste and texture to drinkable yogurt.
Perfect as a drink, poured over cereal or used in baking, the new dairy counter candidate has 10 added cultures and is made with 1% organic milk from Organic Meadow.
"Kéfir is more than just a great-tasting drink, it’s enriched with probiotic cultures that may help add balance to today’s fast-paced lifestyles," said Angelo Eleusiniotis, VP Sales, Organic Meadow Inc. "Consumers are increasingly aware of the health impacts of probiotics and as a result we’re already seeing some great response at retail."
Available at grocery and health food stores nationally as it rolls out, Organic Meadow Kéfir comes to Canadian fridges in 1-litre, recyclable BPA-free plastic containers. Available 12 to a pack and in four flavors -- plain, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry -- Organic Meadow Kéfir is an excellent source of calcium, low in fat, and contributes to a well balanced diet.
The University of Manitoba Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science played a pivotal role in product development on behalf of the co-operative.
"It’s been a mutually rewarding partnership in every way," said Jennifer Whiting, Product Manager, Organic Meadow Inc. "U of M’s dairy experts troubleshot many elements of our overall product development, including bench trials, sourcing ingredients and shelf life testing."
