ORGANIC MEADOW INTRODUCES MANITOBA ORGANIC MILK
December 9, 2008
(Winnipeg) – Organic Meadow, Canada’s leading organic dairy brand, today introduced local Manitoba certified organic milk, courtesy of two member farms of the Manitoba Organic Milk Cooperative (MOM’s). One and two-litre jugs of skim, 1 per cent, 2 per cent and 3.8 per cent certified organic milk have been launched at grocery stores throughout Manitoba.
"This is a great day for the Manitoba agricultural community, for our two debuting organic farmers, and for consumers in general who now have nutritious organic milk produced and packaged locally," said Ted Zettel, Chair, Organic Meadow Inc. "We look forward to welcoming additional farms on board in future and continuing to satisfy the needs of more and more Canadians from right here in Manitoba."
The first two farms to complete the comprehensive process of being certified organic include Zacland Dairy, a third generation farm near Winkler, MB belonging to Conrad and Val Zacharias. Mr. Zacharias is also President of MOM’s. The other farm is owned by Larry and Sue Black, comprising 1,100 acres just outside Deloraine, MB.
"To see the end of the long process of going organic with the launch of our Organic Meadow milk for Manitoba is extremely satisfying and makes this long journey all the more rewarding," said Mr. Zacharias. "This responsible, simple yet very effective farming approach has made all the difference to how we manage our programs and function on the farm."
Instrumental in the successful launch of Manitoba organic milk has been the role of processor Notre Dame Creamery Ltd. in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, MB. President Guy Roch said, "We are very happy to be a part of this exciting new development in Manitoba and look forward to developing additional Organic Meadow products as more farmers become certified organic."
David Wiens, Chair, Dairy Farmers of Manitoba, added: "Dairy Farmers of Manitoba is pleased to provide local organic milk to be processed into organic dairy products for Manitoba consumers."
In addition to Manitoba milk that’s finding its way on to store shelves right now, Organic Meadow also features more than 25 other products available in grocery and natural food stores province-wide.
